FAQ

  • What is a CSA?
A Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share for a flower farm offers members the opportunity to enjoy a regular supply of fresh, locally grown flowers. Participants purchase a share of the flower farm's seasonal harvest in advance, creating a direct connection between the community and the farm. Throughout the growing season, CSA members receive a diverse bouquet of freshly harvested flowers, showcasing the vibrant colors and fragrances of each season. This model not only provides individuals with beautiful and sustainable blooms but also fosters a sense of community engagement and support for local agriculture. CSA shares for flower farms contribute to sustainable farming practices, reduce the environmental impact of long-distance flower transportation, and bring the beauty of the farm directly to the homes of community members.

  • Dahlia Tuber Care Information
Planting Dahlia tubers is a straightforward process, and here are step-by-step instructions to help you successfully plant and grow your Dahlias: Materials Needed: Dahlia Tubers Potting Mix or Well-Draining Soil Small Shovel or Garden Trowel Watering Can or Hose Mulch (optional) Stake or Support (if growing taller varieties) 1 Choose the Right Time Dahlia tubers should be planted after the last frost date in your area, typically in late spring or early summer. 2 Select a Suitable Location Choose a location with well-draining soil and full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day). 3 Prepare the Soil Ensure the soil is well-draining. If you have heavy or clayey soil, consider adding organic matter such as compost to improve drainage. 4 Planting Depth and Spacing Dig a hole about 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) deep. Place the Dahlia tuber in the hole with the "eyes" or growing points facing up. If you have multiple tubers, space them about 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) apart, depending on the variety. 5 Cover and Water Cover the tuber with soil, and water thoroughly to settle the soil and provide initial moisture to the tuber. 6 Mulching (Optional) Mulch the soil around the planted tuber to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature. This is especially beneficial in hot climates. 7 Support for Taller Varieties If you are planting tall Dahlia varieties, install stakes or supports at this stage to provide support as the plants grow. 8 Watering Schedule Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the initial growth period. Avoid overwatering, as Dahlia tubers can rot in waterlogged soil. 9 Fertilization Once the sprouts emerge and the plants are established, you can fertilize with a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer according to package instructions. 10 Regular Maintenance Pinch back the tips of the plants when they are about 12 inches (30 cm) tall to encourage bushier growth and more flowers. Remove spent flowers to promote continuous blooming. 11 Overwintering Overwintering dahlias involves several options to protect these tender tuberous plants from frost and cold temperatures, ensuring their survival for the next growing season. Here are some common methods: Digging and Storing Indoors: Prior to the first frost, carefully dig up dahlia tubers, taking care not to damage them. Allow the tubers to air dry for a few days, then remove excess soil and trim any foliage. Store the tubers in a cool, dry place, such as a basement or garage, in sawdust, vermiculite, or dry peat moss until spring. Mulching in Ground: In regions with mild winters, you can leave dahlia tubers in the ground with a heavy layer of mulch to insulate them from freezing temperatures. Apply a thick layer of mulch, such as straw, leaves, or pine needles, over the dahlia bed after the first frost. Mulching should provide adequate protection against cold while allowing the tubers to remain in the ground.
